सहारा समय (Sahara Samay) · 23 October 2004
An interview in which Zharotia recalls entering art college in the 1960s, working as an illustrator at the Patriot under J. Swaminathan, and why he does not see Swaminathan’s influence in his own work: Swaminathan worked with geometry and space, he with imagination and the figure.
He explains that his imagination grew out of childhood losses, that the animals and birds of his childhood became part of his imagined world, and that he gives them human faces because we understand human language but not theirs.
जो चीज हम वास्तविक जीवन में नहीं पा सकते थे, उसे कल्पना में पाकर खुश होते रहते थे।
What we could not have in real life, we found in imagination, and were happy.
