Whimsy: paintings and sculpture

Press release

Press release

An essay on whimsy as the spring of Zharotia’s work, tracing early echoes of Paul Klee and Henri Rousseau and his attraction to Saumitra Mohan’s poem Luqman Ali. It describes long, narrow paper rolls painted in inks and photo colours, and new figures in fibreglass and ceramic, bold and colourful “like fantastic sculpture for a children’s garden”.

Each work is not an epic, but a book of short stories, a sort of non-moralising Panchatantra.
